Hotel review: Hotel Loft, Bratislava, Slovakia

As I mentioned before, for our trip to Bratislava we got a little bit merry on NYE and decided to throw caution to the wind. I stumbled across Hotel Loft on booking.com and was drawn in by the industrial feel with ultra-modern interiors. The decor felt like it had decor and promoted a homely feel rather than the sterile vibe that hotels sometimes have. After spending two nights in the hotel, I couldn't be happier with our choice.

Located just a ten minute walk from the Old Town, the hotel was in the perfect location. Away from the main hustle and bustle yet close enough to be part of the action. We opted for the premium room which I think it worked out to be only about £25 more than the standard. It was totally worth paying extra. We got to enjoy a free mini bar, incredibly spacious rooms, free wifi and a divine king-sized bed. I adored the industrial vibe of the room with it's brown, neutral tones, making it a joy to come home to each night.

One thing that really caught my attention while researching hotels was the fact the hotel boasted it's very own micro brewery in the grounds. Something we definitely took advantage of while we were there! They offered a more casual pub downstairs with a selection of traditional and European meals. With more than 200 wines on offer as well as their beer Fabrika, you could be in for a long night to try them all! Alternatively, there is a smarter wine bar opposite if you want to be more sophisticated. When the sun is shining they have a great beer garden too! We opted to eat in the beer pub one night and it was really good. Nothing ground-breaking but huge portions of comfort food that was perfect after a long day.

If you ever find yourself in the city of Bratislava, I would wholeheartedly recommend the hotel. It's something a little different from the sterile environments, the staff couldn't be more helpful and it's in a great location. The brewery really gave the hotel something extra special - and I'm not even a beer drinker but I loved it!

OOTD: Yellow dress

Outfit:
Yellow sun dress: M&S (similar)
Double strap sliders: Birkenstock
Canvas strap silver watch: Timex* (similar)

Ah the distant summer! This dress was another staple during my Eastern European trip. Something that was easy to sight see in but also was great to wear out in the evening if we didn't have time to go back and change. Taken in Bratislava, I was in awe of this stunning blue church. Tucked away down some side street in the middle of low-rise apartments, it quite literally took my breath away. Basking in the baking sunshine, it looked like it was glowing and the detailing was beautiful. Another reason why Bratislava completely stole my heart.

Looking back through all my holiday photos have given me itchy feet and I didn't have any flights booked for 2017. So when I spotted £20 flights to Northern Ireland I threw caution to the wind. January probably isn't the best time to go to Northern Ireland thanks to the weather but it's our ten year anniversary and my boyfriend's family live in Derry.  So we shall be visiting family and hiring a car to do a road trip around the Game Of Thrones filming sights. Located just half an hour from the sights, my boyfriend's family live in the perfect location. We haven't been to Ireland for two years so are overdue a trip plus we've have always wanted to do a road trip as the Northern Irish countryside is stunning. Two birds, one stone. I just need a new pair of winter boots...

Exploring Europe: Bratislava, Slovakia

Bratislava was just a stop over. A city that broke up the journey between Austria and Hungary. Yet it ended up being my favourite city of the trip and I feel head over heels. I'd expected endless gangs of English lads on a stag do, a grimy place I'd come to associate with drunken louts and quite frankly, nothing special. But it was beautiful, charming and absolutely stunning. A place I urge everyone to visit immediately for a weekend break.

With a population of only 450,000, it felt almost like we had the city to ourselves. To be honest, you could probably see all the sights within 3 hours but the beauty in the place are the winding lanes where you can get lost. It's such a fantastic place to sit back, order a drink and simply watch the world go by. The Old Town is gorgeous. A bustling hub of wine bars, shabby chic interior shops and cute little cafes. It felt authentic and a world away from home. Which is exactly what I look for when I leave the green and pleasant land behind.

Steeped in history, the city offers a sobering reminder of the communist era. From the soviet style buildings in the new town to the Russian war memorial high up on a hill. It's so hard to imagine Slovakia only became its own country in 1993 after it spilt from Czechoslovakia. It feels like the city has always been so thriving and so full of life. I honestly can't rave about the city enough.

It's already on my list to return and I'm hoping that it will be very soon. The Christmas markets in the old town sound like the perfect time to visit. Look out for a food and city guide coming soon plus the most fantastic hotel!
